Simple Machines began back in 1990 with a simple goal: to put out a series of six compilation 7"s, each one dedicated to one of the simple machines of science. Beginning with "Wedge", we gathered up four songs for each 7", mostly involving bands from the Washington, DC area who were willing to donate a track in exchange for a good chunk of records.
This 80-minute CD not only captures the glorious sounds of Simple Machines 01, but also all six of the "Machine" compilation 7"s (Wedge, Wheel, Pulley, Screw, Lever, Inclined Plane). Includes songs from The Hated, Edsel, Lungfish, Geek, Jawbox, Severin, Autoclave, Scrawl, Nation of Ulysses, Mommyheads, Holy Rollers, Juliana Luecking, Unrest, Superchunk, Rodan, Tsunami, Candy Machine, Cirus Lupus and Velocity Girl. A classic compilation.
